How I Met My Soulmate – A Psychic Medium’s Experience

What would it take for two mediums from different countries to meet and get married one year later? Why, Spirit intervention of course!

I had been developing my psychic abilities for many years and decided to travel from Toronto Canada to Ohio US for a week long advanced public mediumship course. I went with some girlfriends and at that time had just reached that golden point where I was truly happy being single. So when I arrived in the class, I took little notice of the only man in the course.

My girlfriend, however, found an instant connection with him as they were both Italian. She was flirty and coy – I’d never seen her like this before! I figured she was really interested in him, so it was with some surprise that she told me later that day in our hotel room that she wasn’t. “What about you? Are you interested in Ron?” she asked. “No way!” I told her. Little did I know that Spirit was about to play matchmaker.

The next day, we practiced giving messages in front of the class. If you’ve ever seen the TV program Crossing Over with John Edward, you have an idea of how it works. A student stands in front of the group and gives a message to someone from the Spirit of someone who has passed.

“Who’s going to go next?” the teacher asked. “Ron, why don’t you give a message to Selina.” Standing in front of the class, Ron tells me he has my Mom with him and she is humming a tune. “What is that song? It goes something like…shot through the heart”, he sings. “And you’re to blame”, sings someone else. “That’s it! You give love a bad name,” he proclaims pointing his finger at me.

As the class erupted in laughter and I turned several shades of red, Ron realized he had put his foot in his mouth and retracted the last line. “That’s not the message”, he said. “The message is that there is someone who is trying to shoot an arrow into your heart but your heart is closed so it can’t get through.” Little did I realize it was him.

At break time I stood out in the parking lot to soak up some of the sun. Ron was talking on his cell phone a lot. “Hmph!” I thought. “Must be a partier with that many friends.” And with that, I closed my eyes.

Ron was in the parking lot and bent over to pick up a lucky penny. He looked at it and saw that it was a Canadian penny. Not much chance of finding a Canadian penny in Ohio. Just then another student walked up to him and said, “I have a message to give you. Your destiny is over your right shoulder.” Ron turned to look over his right shoulder and saw me standing there. “I’ll help you”, my Mom whispered in his ear. “I’ll tell you when.”

The last night we were staying we were going to give messages in front of people at a party. The house it was at was spectacular and had an elevator, a movie room complete with theatre chairs and a large screen, a gym, and the biggest living room I have ever seen. There must have been 50 people seated waiting for use to give messages from Loved Ones. It was a tough crowd and after the messages I had a headache. Feeling low, I saw Ron and mentioned my headache.

“Now!” my mom suddenly said in his ear. “Uh, would you like me to give you a healing? We can go outside.” Ron is a Reiki Master. “Sure,” I replied.

Outside we sat on a bench and Ron put his hand on my back. I felt the warmth of energy starting to flow. Then he said, “They are telling me that you need to talk.”

Now what possessed me to tell this man my entire life story, I’ll never know. But out it all came – my childhood, mom’s death, my 1st marriage and divorce, my unhappiness with my job – everything. And he listened with compassion and grace.

“This man has nice energy”, I thought to myself. “And he has nice eyes too.” All of a sudden, I was open to him. He had accepted everything that I had told him without judgment. And then the party was over, and we all went back to the hotel.

The next morning, we were all leaving to go back to our respective homes. Ron came over and held both my hands, looked into my eyes and asked, “We’ll stay in touch?” Before I could open my mouth, my girlfriend said, “The teacher is going to email a contact list.” And with that, goodbyes were said.

I didn’t hear from Ron for a couple of weeks. The contact list was never sent. He was in the middle of emailing the teacher to ask for the list for the third time when his computer suddenly turned off and on. When the screen came back on he had a sudden thought to look through his old messages. He found one that had a list of people who were staying at the hotel in Ohio in case people wanted to share rooms. My email was on it.

He sent me a short email with his phone number. I hemmed and hawed. Did I call him? Did I really want to start something? Now that I was back in Toronto, I had been thinking about him, but he was in a different country far away after all.

It was about 8:30pm that night and Ron was at home talking on the phone with a friend. My mom whispered to him, “She is going to call at 9pm.” “I’m expecting a call from Selina. She’s going to call at 9pm, so I have to go”, he told his friend.

Meanwhile in Toronto, I’m still undecided. “Oh why not?” I exclaimed to myself as I picked up the phone and dialed.

“Hello?” “Hi. It’s Selina. Is it too late to call?” “Oh no, it’s just 9. How are you?” And so the conversation went. Many phone calls later, we were to meet for my birthday in Lily Dale, a Spiritualist community in New York state.

We were sitting by the dock after we had finished dinner. It was evening and the stars were coming out. “Say something about the stars!” whispered my Mom to Ron. “Look, the stars are coming out!” he said. I had always loved the starry night. How romantic! There was a chilly breeze and Ron snuggled up to keep me warm. And then our first kiss.

From there it was like magic. Ron sold his house and moved to Toronto. There were so many synchronicities we both knew that we had help from the Other Side. We are not only mediums, we are also both Reiki healers. Many of our nights were spent talking about psychic experiences, and giving each other messages and healings. We even cleared some houses of ghosts together. I had finally met my soulmate, thanks to the Spirit World!

Social Media Management: Your Key To More Sales And Happier Customers

Successful businesses today employ the Internet to create "brand awareness" among targeted customers, and convince them to purchase products and services. In this era of Internet exploitation, the web site has become the ideal medium through which your messages cost-effectively may reach targeted customers.

Instead of relying on television, magazines, or newspapers, you may deliver profitable messages in a matter of minutes – versus hours, days, or even weeks appealing to customers via the other media. However, to make certain your business communications are strong and convey the right benefits and urges to purchase, you will need to employ a well-organized social media management plan. Such a discipline helps you ensure your promotions via business web sites are effective, and enhance your client base and brand popularity.

By implementing effective social media management, you avoid posting messages that do not elicit the desired responses. In this manner, you carefully manage advertising and marketing strategies on social web sites, and prevent messages being ignored. With this in mind, social media "analytics" will help you determine the behavior, attitudes, and likings of your target customers. By examining key web sites – Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn – you'll learn which are frequented most often by your prospective customers, and discover what they think about your products or services.

This provides insight into your brand response rates, and also informs you about any grievances customers may express. When you are completely aware of your target customers' preferences and choices, you're better equipped to alter your brand and resolve any critisms customers may have noted. You also will recognize that effective social media management will increase the popularity of your brand, as well as the size of your customer base. In short, efficient social media management ensures you enjoy the best promotional advantages of business web sites.

In another vein, you've probably learned that promoting oneself or one's company is time-consuming, especially when it comes to accessing Facebook and Twitter; two of the most heavily-trafficked web sites on the Internet. Many who try to employ these sites for business have no knowledge of how to use them appropriately, and often are frustrated and give up trying. However, once again there's an approach that helps with this dilemma, and it's as simple as employing someone to "shepherd" your Facebook and Twitter accounts through social media management.

Effective social media management guides your business and that individual, and also helps with the design and development of interactive web pages for sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Social media management also helps you obtain fans and pals with what to communicate as well as assist with every day communications with one's "followers." Additionally, it will relieve you from creating daily posts and tweets, and serve as an excellent time saver.

A social media management provider also may create advertising and marketing techniques that support your Facebook and Twitter accounts, and explode into the "viral realm of achievement." He or she will offer suggestions on how to best promote your Facebook page and Twitter account inside the "off-line planet." A social media management provider will demonstrate concepts like printing Facebook and Twitter pages on your receipt, and getting posters on your walls by using the "comply with us" sign-on at the bottom. Such suggestions are simple yet effective, and your social media management provider will offer even more inventive tips.

Social media marketing, overall, referring to the process of gaining web traffic through numerous social networks. It is a program concerned with creating impressive content, and attracting large numbers of readers who share those messages with others. In other words, trustworthy information is usually obtained from third parties, and not the companies involved.

Social media actually are intermediaries (or "information tunnels") accessible to anyone with internet access, and through which verbal and visual communications flow. As a result, this type of marketing takes advantage of, and captures, the large market operating within the Internet. In fact, the Internet platform has become one of the most effective and least expensive parts of the marketing mix that exists within today's business environment.

In addition to the above benefits, cell phone usage further benefits the value of social media management. Most of these instruments are installed with networking capabilities, and users receive notifications of practically every event through their public networks and cells. Because of this phenomenon, the number of people being informed about your product or service has doubled over the last decade or so.

This uninterrupted connection to communal networks is yet another indication that companies and entrepreneurs may keep reminding customers of the availability of their products and services within the marketplace. In addition to advertisements, many companies include Quick Response or "QR" codes along their products. This visual "bar code" enables individuals to access company websites and on-line services through their smart phones.

Many businesses and organizations add a QR application to their promotional programs, and report achieving unimaginable traffic. In fact, there are even reports the program was used in the recent presidential campaigns, and candidates employ this strategy to reach wide ranges of supporters to what they "sell" their proposed practices and policies. If this simple strategy works for politicians who reach more constituents and increase their support bases, it also should work cost-effectively within the business environment.

Most companies also have added blogging platforms to their social media repertoires. Myriad people access such blogs daily, and increase the chances of creating awareness for new products and services within the marketplace. Blogs are ideal for creating longer and more informative descriptions of products and services for potential customers, and effectively target the ideal market. Most viewers will have "opted in" to read the blog, so the interest is there. In addition, smart advertisers may include customer testimonials in their blogs, and which also adds to effectiveness and credibility.

Social media marketing through communal networks provides advertisers with critical information regarding customer likes and dislikes, as well as "first-hand" suggestions for product or service improvements. It is the ideal platform that provides a target audience for companies and entrepreneurs, because people always are readily available at these web sites. Which means, in essence, companies do not have to search far for the best targeted market. Additionally, these networks provide people from all walks of life, which also increases the chances of finding the right customers who will be interested in certain products or services being marketed.

Currently, social media play vital roles in enhancing business images and increasing their returns on investment. Competition among businesses and services greatly has intensified, and effective marketing is the primary tool by which one businesses can get leakage over another.

Without proper promotion and well thought-out employment of the marketing mix, you can not create awareness of your brand among target customers. Gone are the days of limited products and services available in the marketplace, when customers recognized each and most promotion "word-of-mouth" testimony.

Today, there are hundreds of World Class products and services on the market. However, only those that come to the forefront through effective social media management will be promoted appropriately, and achieve the best return on a business's marketing investment.

How Fish Oil Pills Can Benefit Your Life in Many Ways

Their daily diet consisted of a lot of fresh, oily fish which then sparked our interest and spawned a growth in fish oil pills over here, as a way of getting those same health benefits for ourselves. Those clever scientists then began to piece together the pieces of the puzzle, that gave us an insight into how these essential fatty acids help your heart stay healthy. I even found a glowing reference to it from the American Heart Association which recommended it for heart health.

But, that wasn’t the complete picture as study after study highlighted other health categories where these oils provided a significant and notable difference to patients health when taken regularly. Let’s take a brief look at one or two of them.

One applies to how well our brain functions and by taking fish oil pills we can greatly increase our level of concentration, and memory skills also show a distinct improvement. There’s also been some work on how it can help kids that exhibit aggressive tendencies and calming down violent inmates in prisons. All good stuff and it seems our brain relies on these omega 3 fatty acids for good nerve cell functioning.

Another big plus point is the fact that these natural substances are so effective as an anti inflammatory. If you didn’t know, inflammation is hard to spot and it displays next to no symptoms, but has been pinpointed as part of the process that eventually leads to some of today’s serious illnesses.

My main site examines other equally important health benefits from taking fish oil pills like in some types of cancers, skin conditions and your immune system. Harnessing these is within the reach of anyone keen to stay in optimum health.

Workstation Health and Fitness Solutions For RSI

Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) is now a major industrial disease affecting millions of people around the world. RSI includes conditions such as carpel tunnel syndrome, tenosynovitis and tendinitis – often collectively referred to as upper limb disorders, musculoskeletal disorders, occupational overuse syndrome (OOS), computer related injuries or cumulative trauma disorders, or CTD. Often the posotion of workstations and the design of the PC and accessories can affect how our health and safety.

1. Workstation Ergonomics

A well designed workstation is essential to maintaining good posture and reducing the risk of lower back pain and other computer related injuries.

2. Ergonomic Keyboards and Mice

There are quite a few ergonomically designed keyboards and mice available. The Microsoft Natural Keyboard is one example. This keyboard splits the keys into two panels – one for each hand, and angles each panel so that the hands sit naturally on the keyboard, rather than requiring them to be twisted into an unnatural position which is the case with normal keyboards. Many mice are now designed to fit neatly into either hand, and can often have a scrolling wheel, which can make scrolling through documents easier and less stressful than using scroll bars.

These ergonomic devices are generally more expensive than standard designs, but can be well worth the investment.

3. Ergonomic Use of Keyboards and Mice

The computer mouse was originally designed to make using a computer easier – it is much easier to point at a picture and click than to learn a relatively complicated series of keystrokes. However, research has shown that using a mouse is a significant cause of repetitive strain injury. Especially if the mouse is located at the same level and to the side of the keyboard – it's usual location. This requires extending your arm which introduces significant tensions and stresses in your arm, shoulder and neck.

The best position for your mouse is on a raised platform slightly above the numeric keypad on your computer. Also, if you reduce the speed of the mouse and the number of clicks you have to make you can greatly reduce the muscle tension in your arm and hand. Additionally, you can swap the primary and secondary mouse buttons (the left and right buttons), to change the mouse from being right handed to left handed. Using your left hand – or right hand if you are left handed – can take some getting used to, but can be very helpful if you are suffering from any aches and pains in one hand. Regularly alternating between left and right hands can also give your arms and hands a rest, so minimizing the risk of developing any RSI condition. You can swap the mouse buttons using the mouse applet in the Windows Control Panel – or directly from the Stress Buster context menu – with fewer mouse clicks and / or key strokes.

To reduce the mouse speed, open the Mouse applet in the Windows Control Panel, select the tab Pointer Options and move the pointer speed slider to the left to slow. Click OK.

To reduce the number of clicks you have to make, open the My Computer icon, then select Tools, Folder Options, and then under Click Items As Follows, choose Single-click to open an item.

If you can you should avoid using the mouse as much as possible. Most actions and commands can be transported out using keyboard shortcuts instead of the mouse. For example, to reduce the number of clicks you have to make with your mouse – as described above, you could use the following keyboard shortcuts:

1. Press the button on your keyboard to open the Windows Start Menu.
2. Use the arrow keys to select My Computer (or the alternative name you may have given to your computer), and then press Enter or Return. This will open an explorer window for your computer.
3. Hold down the Alt key and press "T" to open the Tools menu, then press "O" to open Folder Options.
4. In Folder Options, hold down the Alt key, and press "S". This will select the option Single-click to open an item.
5. Press Enter or Return to close the Folder Options dialog.

Windows Help provides extensive help on using keyboard shortcuts with Windows. Individual applications such as Microsoft Office also have their own keyboard shortcuts – with the appropriate help. Learning keyboard shortcuts can take some time, but once learnt, using them tend to be faster than using the mouse, and avoids much of the discomfort associated with the mouse.

4. Rest Breaks

All ergonomic experts agree that taking frequent rest breaks is essential to avoid the risk of computer related injuries.

You should take frequent "eye breaks" – staring at a computer monitor for long periods causes you to blink less often – resulting in dryer eyes. Every 10 to 15 minutes you should look away from your monitor and blink your eyes quickly for a few seconds. This will refresh the tear film and clear any dust from the surface of the eyes. Additionally you should focus on something at a distance – preferably 20 feet or more away – look out of the window if you can – this will relax the muscles inside the eye.

You should take frequent short pauses or "micro pauses" – for 10 seconds or so up to a minute – every 10 minutes or thereabouts. You should take regular short breaks – for 5 minutes or more – every hour or so – maybe go for a coffee or a short walk around the office, and you should take a long break every two or three hours – for at least 15 minutes, or preferably 30 minutes to an hour. Exactly how long and how frequent your breaks are depends on your own personal preferences and working environment.

5. Stretching Exercises

Regular stretching is an essential part of RSI prevention and recovery, remember that your body is not designed to be sat at a desk for 8 hours a day clicking a mouse. Respect your body and give it the movement and range of motion it normally expects.

6. Posture

Good post is essential to avoid repetitive strain injury and other computer related injuries. Well designed workstation ergonomics can help in maintaining a good posture.

* Make sure that you can reach the keyboard with your wrists as flat as possible (not twisted up or down) and straight (not twisted left or right). An ergonomic keyboard can help to keep your wrists straight.

* Make sure that your elbow angle is 90 degrees or more to avoid nerve compression at the elbow.

* Make sure that your upper arm and elbow are as close to the body and as relaxed as possible for mouse use – avoid overreaching. Also make sure that your wrist is as straight as possible when the mouse is being used.

* Make sure that you sit back in the chair and that you have good back support – especially lumber support.

* Make sure that your feet are flat on the floor. Use a foot rest if necessary.

* Make sure that your head and neck are as straight as possible.

* Make sure that you are relaxed. Forcing yourself to sit up straight can sometimes introduce unhealthy tensions in the back muscles.

7. Alternative Input Devices

There are a number of alternative input devices you can use, instead of the mouse and keyboard, which you might find helpful. Examples are the trackball, a graphics table and pen, a touchpad, and even voice control.

RSI is a very serious health risk, especially with the young people who are coming to any industry sector that has continuous use of a PC. You need to take all the actions and preventions necessary to help minimize that risk.

A Look at Online Poker Tournaments

Over the course of the past ten years, a significant number of men and women have become actively involved in all types of online gambling, and poker is certainly no exception. In fact, with poker's recent rise in popularity – hundreds of thousands of people from the world over involve themselves in Internet based poker tournaments each and every year, and the numbers are quickly growing.

To some, the very concept of entering a "tournament" may seem intimidating, but they are not just for the aspiring card professional. These days there are players of all skill levels participating on the tables, and entry fees as low as a couple of dollars.

What Are Online Poker Tournaments?

There are not a lot of significant differences between poker tournaments played in cyberspace and those connected in the brick and mortar world. The obvious difference is when playing in an online poker game your opponents are not physically imprisoned next to you. Asides from that, the rules and betting structures are normally the same.

Tournaments of all types and sizes are available for online patrons to enter, from single table "pick up" games to massive multi-table events.

Single table tournaments are not like what many people are already accustomed to playing on a Saturday night at home with friends – 6, 8 or 10 players at one table, with the top 2 or 3 places dividing the prize money. At just about any online poker room these pick up games run all day long, concluding immediately once a table is filled, and opening a new table to seat the next set of players.

Multi-table tournaments can be comprised of as few as two tables, but it is not uncommon for a larger online tournament to attract thousands of entrants. In theory, due to today's modern computer and communications technology, it is possible for an online poker tournament to have legally an unlimited number of entrants, as there are no physical limitations to the number of tables that they can use.

Games Played at Online Poker Tournaments

In this day and age, almost any type of poker game can be found played at one poker venue or another. While the increasingly popular Texas Hold 'Em remains a favorite for large-scale events, there are other types of poker games that have become increasingly popular in the online poker tournament scene in recent years; including 7-Card Stud, Omaha, and their Hi / Lo (split pot) counterparts.

Tournament Buy-Ins

Online poker rooms have the financial advantage of no space constraints and electronic dealers, which allows them to offer much more flexibility when it comes to how low tournament buy-ins can go. For new players or those on a budget, there are entry fees as low as a dollar at some venues, and in some cases, even free tournaments with real prizes for new players (commonly referred to as "freerolls").

On the other side, for more experienced players and those who prefer higher stakes action, single table buy-ins can go as high as $ 500 at some places, and direct buy-ins for larger multi-table events often run into the hundreds as well .

Most online tournament operators charge an administrative fee of 10% that is added to the buy-in. A $ 10 tournament for example, would cost a player $ 11 in total to enter ($ 10 + $ 1). This 10% is where the house gets its profit, with the reminder of the money going towards the prize pool for winning players.

Satellites and Super-Satellites

Some larger tournaments may offer as much as millions of dollars in prizes, which requires large entry fees from it's participants in order to fund. In some instances, organizers of these poker events will utilize a series of "satellites" and "super satellites" as part of the tournament structure to allow players a chance to work their way up to the main event without the expense of a direct buy- in.

Satellites are essentially inexpensive poker tournaments, the winners from which advance to either a super-satellite (see below) or directly into the main tournament event. These are also often referenced as 'qualifiers'.

Similarly, a super-satellite is a higher-priced version of a satellite tourney – not as expensive to enter as a direct buy-in, but with a higher entry fee than a regular satellite. Winners advance onto the main tournament event with fees paid, and will also often receive cash prizes as well.

In conclusion, whether you're just looking for a fun way to challenge your amateur skills or aspiring to be the next World Series of Poker champion, online tournaments can provide any level of player with a fun poker experience at a price to suit any budget , sometimes of even winning a bit of money along the way. Definitely not just for the pros anymore.

Dry Cleaning – Where It All Began And How It Can Benefit You

For as long as people have been wearing clothes, people have also been washing clothes. Whether you're someone who lives depends on a washing machine to push through mountains of clothes, or if you're someone who enjoys the simple method of a good old hand wash, this is always a weekly choir that we can not escape from. In modern days we now have dry cleaning at our finger tips and there's such a variety of services to choose from, but how did it all begin?

The history of dry cleaning stems back to 79 AD in Ancient Rome, where early cleaners were labeled as "Fullers". They used a combination of ammonia, lye and a clay called "fuller's earth" to absorb dirt from their garments.

In the 17th – 18th Centuries cleaning methods began to develop and cleaners would use non – water based solvents to remove unwanted stains like soil from a range of different garments. In 1985, Jean Baptiste Jolly was a French dye-works operator, who recognized the potential in using petroleum-based solvents like gasoline and kerosene, to remove stains instead. This service was the first manifesto of 'dry cleaning' that still offers the familiar service we use today. However as the petroleum solvents caused so many explosions and fires due to flammability, strict government regulation had had to be set in place.

Due to this, a dry cleaner from Atlanta named William Joseph Stoddard, developed a white spirit solvent as an alternative to the gasoline based solvents that were highly flammable. From here on out clearing methods continue to evolve. Although in 1939, World War II lead to petrol shortages which mean that Tetrachlorethylene (perchlorethylene), commonly known as perc, became the most popular solvent. It was non-flammable and provided the highest standard of cleaning power, and thanks to this professional cleaners were allowed to move back into the cities.

Now days, at home you would typically wash your clothes in a washing machine and then tumble dry them, however a Dry Cleaning machine takes both of these processes and combines them into one.

Garments are placed in the core of the machine within a washing chamber known as the "basket" or "drum", which is perforated and rotates within an outer shell that holds the solvent. The chamber is filled with one-third of solvent and starts to rotate, keeping the solvent temperature at 30 degrees Celsius. During the course the solvent in the chamber (also referred to as the "cage" or "tackle box") is passed backwards and forwards through a filtration chamber and the cage itself. This is known as the wash cycle.

Before any garment is washed it must be thoroughly checked for any foreign objects that may be reflected in the pockets. Items like plastic pens will easily dissolve within the solvent which in turn may damage and ruin the garments to the point where they need to be disposed of. The rule of dark colors to be separated from light colors is still applied as the dye can shed when exposed to the solvent. Before any dry cleaning takes place, items must be checked against their compatibility as a lot of fastenings are not normally solvent proof, or just might not be able to withstand the wash cycle. If this is the case then they will either be removed and attached back on after the cleaning has finished, or will be protected where possible.

After the wash cycle comes the rinse cycle, where the garment is rinsed with a fresh distilled solvent, which advances discoloration from soiled particles. Then after the rinse cycle, the machine begins the extraction process, which gathers all the solvent for reuse. Once the solvent has been drained the drying cycle takes over and the garments are tumbled in warm air that flows through the basket. In modern dry cleaning machines use a closed-loop system which means the chilled air can be reheated and re-circulated, resulting in a reduction in air pollution and higher solvent recovery. Once the drying cycle is complete the aeration cycle cools the garments and continues to remove any further passages of solvent. The garments are then ready to be pressed and finished.

Although the powerful method of dry cleaning has been highly related to remove stains with one wash, not all stains can be removed simply by dry cleaning. Some stains will need particular treatments such as specific spotting with solvents, using a stream jet to blast the stain, or a good soak in a specialized stain remover, all of which will need to have been acted before the item is put through the wash cycle . Garments that have been soiled for a long time are even more troublesome when it comes to stain removal, yet if successfully removed there is a reasonably hood that the color or texture of the garment will not be the same.

That said, dry cleaning is still one of the most popular sources of washing to this date, and is favorable for people with busy schedules. With modern technical advances some dry cleaning services can be accessed via mobile apps meaning you can have an efficient dry cleaning service at the click of a button. Click Clean Clothes is just one example of a fast dry cleaning service in Brighton. They offer dry cleaning with free pick-up and delivery, meaning they will work around you to provide you with the best service.

So next time you have some specific washing needs, whenever you urgently need your shirt and suit pressed for a black tie event, or whether you just want to take your mind off a mountain of washing, why not try your local dry cleaning service? It may just be the most ideal solution for you moving forward.

Steam Boilers’ Thirteen Essential Fittings in a Nutshell

Steam boiler is dangerous machinery, and for that reason, law is required to control every aspect of the boiler. Factories & Machinery (Steam Boilers and Unfired Pressure Vessel) Regulations, 1970, provided stringent requirement on safety aspects and controls on boilers. This Code stipulates that any boiler should consolidate thirteen essential fittings so that boilers can be operated safely.

The thirteen essential fittings can be grouped into three categories. The first category is safety fitting. Safety fittings include safety valves, gauge glasses, pressure gauge, low water alarm, low-water fuel cutout, and fusible plug. The second category is control fittings, which incorporate blowdown valves, main stop valve, feed check valve, and feed pumps. The final category is legal fitting, which incorporate inspector’s test attachment, registration plate, and manufacturer’s name plate. In this article, I would discuss some safety fittings.

Safety valve is the most important safety fitting on a boiler. It is fitted to prevent excessive pressure buildup in the boiler which could lead to boiler explosion. FMA Regulations 1970 stipulates that every boiler having a heating surface surpassing 100 sq.ft must be equipped with two safety valves, one of which must be direct spring-loaded type, mounted vertically as close as practical to the steam boiler shell without shut valve placed in between. The relieving capacity of safety valves is determined by the capacity of the boiler at peak load. The safety valves must be able to effectively discharge all steam with a rise of pressure of not greater than ten percent of the authorized safe working pressure (ASWP). The safety valves must be set to blow at different pressures. The first valve should open when the pressure exceeds three percent above the boiler working pressure while the other valve should open at a pressure slightly higher but must not be higher than the ASWP. The working pressure of a boiler is usually set at seven percent below ASWP. The spindles, disk, and other moving parts must not be made of materials that corrode easily.

Pressure gauge is the fitting that measures steam pressure inside the steam boiler. The Bourdon tube is the most common pressure gauge used on a boiler. The Code specifies that a pressure gauge should be installed on the steam space and provided with a shutoff cock and a siphon which develops and maintains a water seal, protecting direct contact of live steam with the Bourdon tube. A pressure gauge is usually mounted in front of the boiler in such a position that the boilermen can conveniently read it from the firing floor. FMA (Steam Boilers and Unfired Pressure Vessels) Regulations, 1970 stipulates that the diameter of the dial must not be less than 6 inches and must show pressure within a tolerance of two percent the authorized safe working pressure. The scale on the dial of a code pressure gauge must be graduated to not less than one and one-third and not more than twice ASWP.

A fusible plug is used in addition to other forms of low water protection. This device is not required by ASME code but is still included in FMA Regulations 1970. The fusible plug in watertube boiler is placed 3 inches below lowest water level while in firetube boiler, fusible plug is placed 3 inches above top tubes. In the event of low water, fusible plug will melt, the pressure inside the boiler is released, and the sound of escaping steam will produce high whistling sound, alerting the boilermen. However, the capability of fusible plug to quench the fire in the furnace is debatable because the steam rushed out is too small to have quenching impact. The hole of fusible plug is only 1/2″. Fusible plug is made of brass or bronze and contains a tapered hole. The hole is filled with tin which has a melting point of 230 deg.C. According to code, the fusible alloy should melt at a temperature of not more than 70 deg.C higher than the saturated steam temperature corresponding to the ASWP. For example, for a steam boiler of 10 bar, the saturated steam temperature is 180 deg.C; therefore the fusible alloy should melt at 250 deg.C. The use of fusible plug is limited to solid fuel and steam boiler having a pressure of 17 bar, which corresponds to tin’s melting temperature. Higher pressure would require low water alarm. That is why in a modern boiler, fusible plug sometimes cannot be found as it is replaced with low water alarm which serves exactly the same function.

Diatoms: Interesting Facts

Diatoms are tiny single-celled organisms that make up diatomaceous earth. They were first discovered in 1702 by Anton van Leeuwenhoek and for hundreds of years these microscopic creatures have been studied and analyzed. Richard B. Hoover contributed to this research by travelling the world, studying diatoms and collecting new species. In a June 1979 Edition of National Geographic, he published his exciting findings on these extraordinary organisms.

Below are some of the most exciting and intriguing findings regarding diatoms:

  • While studying a diatom collection in Belgium, that had been dried on paper in 1834, Richard B. Hoover was shocked to find that after adding water to a slide, the diatoms were revived and began to swim around… after nearly 150 years!
  • More than twenty-five thousand species of diatoms have been discovered, none of which have the same shell.
  • Diatoms exist in large numbers in most bodies of water throughout the world. In fact, just one liter of seawater can contain as many as ten million diatoms!
  • The greatest numbers of diatoms exist in cold oceans.
  • Diatoms can thrive wherever there is light, water, carbon dioxide, and nutrients. In some cases diatoms can even live out of the water – in moist conditions, they are able to live in topsoil, or attached to moss, tree trunks and even brick walls.
  • Diatoms are very resilient and can endure lengthy droughts.
  • Diatoms vary greatly in size, with the largest measuring only one millimeter across.
  • A species of diatom found on Cape Cod, known as Hantzschia virgata, bury themselves in the sand when the tide is in. Just after the tide goes out, the diatoms glide to the surface in order to sunbathe. Their timing is impeccable, as they know precisely when to bury themselves back in to the sand, retreating just moments before the tide returns. In fact, it was discovered that even after keeping these diatoms for weeks in a laboratory their timing remained constant. They continued to dig in and out of the sand with such amazing accuracy that their actions could be used to predict the tide!
  • Diatoms are impressive shell builders. They transform dissolved silicon into a silica almost identical to the gemstone opal.
  • Diatoms contribute enormous amounts of oxygen to our atmosphere.
  • Huge numbers of diatoms die and sink to the bottom of river, lake and ocean beds. In some areas, sea floors can be covered in a layer as deep as 984 feet (300 meters)! Over many years these layers of dead diatoms fossilize and become rich deposits of diatomaceous earth, or diatomite.
